Beautifully written inspirational tales of the human-animal bond. The stories naturally flow in a touching parade of vignettes. A quick read...even more enjoyable the second time. A real gem!! Would be a wonderful gift book, for any occasion. Appropriate for all ages. Hopefully, there will be a sequel.

Love that Wild Cookie!
I bought this for my 7-year old daughter - and she is totally into it - I'd say even addicted! She loves the interactive story "hot-spots" and there's so many of them - it's always new - quite unlike other kid's games where the interactivity is very limited.

She's also reciting the rap all the time now - "Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar! Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar!"

Nice going to the author, the artist, and the musicians. Great work!

Great Fun
I love this kind of offbeat humor and music that you don't usually find in kids' products.

Awesome! I had as much fun as my kids!
The story is cute AND it kept my 5 year old's attention for a whole hour at a time! Her reading skills are visibly improved, even though she had to arm wrestle me for who got to play. My 3 year old loves the characters and the music. It's a great start for him on the computer.

100 Important Life Lessons for Everyone: Practical Lessons to Help You Acheive a Happy & Successful Life
Published in Paperback by Writers Club Press (September, 1901)
Author: Gina Johnson Smith
Average review score:

The Soul Food of Wisdom
This book spoke to me about ME! I especially liked the very first section - Be Honest With Yourself About Yourself. It starts out with a slam. If you can't see yourself in these pages, you're not looking! This book kills any excuses about why your life is not the way it should be and guides you on the path to making it what you want it to be. Excellent!

A Gem of a Read!
This book is helping me to evaluate myself and make the changes I need to make to ensure my life is better for me and others around me. It's all about Spirit, Mind & Body. It's not proper writing - it's writing from the heart - clear and concise, honest and true.

I want to know what I need to know, quickly, honestly, and without fuss. And Gina Johnson Smith gives it to me the way I need it. I look forward to Volume 2!

Wisdom - Sweet and to the point!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is full of wisdom-bringing both the practical and the spiritual into one arena. Each section is short and to the point. Mrs. Smith doesn't waste words or time.

I saw myself all through this book. If you want to really grow spiritually. If you're really serious, YOU NEED TO GET THIS BOOK!

Accessories (Chic Simple)
Published in Hardcover by Knopf (May, 1996)
Authors: Kim Johnson Gross, Christa Worthington, Jeff Stone, and James Wojcik
Average review score:

Perfect for ideas
This little book is well worth every penny. The pictures are gorgeous, and the breadth of ideas is incredible. Even if you just need occasional "help" in deciding what to wear or how to spice up an outfit, Chic Simple Accessories will help.

Outstanding! One of the best accessory books available.
At first glance, this may seem like merely a pretty picture book, but if you take the time to look closer, you will find advice for building a classic, comfortable, versatile wardrobe through the wise use of accessories.

My favorite part of this book is when the authors take one outfit (say, white blouse and black pants) and show it with different accessories. This tactic really illustrates what a difference accessories can make. It also makes me look at my own wardrobe and think how I can achieve different "looks" with accessories rather than buying different clothes.

The other gem of this book is the accessory checklist at the back of the book, divided into categories: basic gear, ornamentation, work, evening, summer, and winter. These two pages are worth the price of the book alone.

Accessories for the Librarian
I had been wanting for some time to break out of the dowdy Librarian mode. I decided to start my transformation with a book on the basics on accessories and Accessories (Chic Simple) fit the bill perfectly. It has wonderful pictures which enhance the copy making it more understandable and interesting. It also has information about where to purchase every item in the book and how to maintain the items after purchase. It tries to stay with the classics and tells you how to handle the trends. After reading this book, I feel ready to make accessory purchases that will make me look and feel confident

American Modern: 1925-1940: Design for a New Age
Published in Hardcover by Harry N Abrams (May, 2000)
Author: J. Stewart Johnson
Average review score:

America's own design style.
This is a beautifully designed and printed book based on the exhibition 'American Modern' at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. The 172 illustrations (142 are large color photos mostly one to a page) focus on objects rather than the wider visual aspects of streamline design such as architecture, transport, engineering. I like the idea of everyday items being used, here you can study, for instance, Lurelle Guild's 1937 Electrolux vacuum cleaner, Norman Bel Geddes' 1940 Patriot radio, Russel Wright's 1937 American Modern dinnerware or the stunning candleholders Wilbert Orme designed in 1938, there are four shown in four separate arrangements and I would really like to have a set!

Author Stewart Johnson explains, in an essay at the start of the book, how a small group of American designers, several of them émigrés from Europe, abandoned the ornamentation of Art Deco in favor of simple clean lines, using new materials and manufacturing techniques. Furniture designer Paul Frankl was one of this group and he became an active promoter of the new style. He tied it all down to six characteristics
1Simplicity.
2Plain surfaces.
3Unbroken lines.
4Accentuation of structural necessity.
5Dramatisation of the intrinsic beauty of materials.
6Elimination of meaningless and distracting motives of the past.
Johnson adds one other point that Frankl would not have mentioned at the time: Streamlining. This was the idea that made the style American.

The back of the book has several pages of designer biographies, a useful glossary (Aluminum to Vitrolite and I now know what Monel Metal is) bibliography and index. Joe Coscia Jr, of the Metropolitan's photo studio, should be congratulated on his wonderful photography of the exhibits, they leap right off the page.

As this book only covers objects you might want to read about other areas of Streamline design, have a look at 'The Machine Age in America' by Richard Guy Wilson, Dianne Pilgrim and Dickran Tashjian. I think this can be considered the standard work on the subject. Another book that I like is Martin Greif's 'Depression Modern: Thirties Style in America', it has some excellent architectural (especially interior) photos that I have not seen in other books. Want to know more? Scan over my Listmania Streamline books selection.

Wonderful book!
I saw the exhibition at The Met and this book captures the objects perfectly! It also serves as a great reference to the greatest period in American industrial design: 1925 to 1940.

A COFFEE TABLE BOOK--With CONTENT!
This is a great book for anyone interested in or appreciative of modern design and aesthetics. The book itself is beautiful, and all the color reproductions inside are sleek, clean, and inspiring. The author has the works divided by interesting categories such as "Streamlined," "Geometries," and "Penthouse," groupings that really help illuminate different design tendencies during this period. A beautiful publication!

Apparitions: Mystic Phenomena and What They Mean
Published in Paperback by Pangaeus Press (13 May, 1998)
Authors: Kevin Orlin Johnson and Ph.D. Kevin Orlin Johnson
Average review score:

A "must" for students of mystic phenomena & metaphysics.
Apparitions explains mystic phenomena, from auras and levitation to ecstasy and regenerative processes. This is the only general mystical title to carry the Catholic Church's official certification of freedom from error and will appeal to Catholic holdings as an unusual, important coverage.

Read this book -- learn something!
This is a great book ... a believable book...about some of the greatest mysteries in the world.

Has Mary appeared with warnings for the world? What about the Stigmata -- is it really the wounds of Christ or simply psychosis?

Kevin Orlin Johnson is an outstanding author -- anyone would enjoy his books. Not only are they fun to read...but you also actually learn something! He's given me a new appreciation for how the Church can stand up to an intellectually rigorous process.

Tired of Christian pablum? Give this book a try!

A thorough, well documented and readable collection.
This book is a very readable collection of authentic mystic events and phenomena. The emphasis is on people and events that are well documented and the likelihood of fraud is low. There are also chapters on the demonic and on outright frauds. Many of the chapters stand on their own so you can read what you want in any order you want. The weakest part of the book is in some of the footnotes which can be a bit opinionated, though most of them were quite interesting. Naturalists (materialists) would find this book challenging to their beliefs while I found much that bolstered my faith.

The Art Of Letting Go Of Stuff
Published in Audio Cassette by InsideOut Learning (01 November, 1998)
Author: Darren Johnson
Average review score:

A Must Have For the 21st Century!
This audio program is an excellent tool to help you let go of bad habits, negative thoughts, and unhealthy relationships. It is a "tool" because Darren Johnson, the author, guides you through the process himself with sheer ease. I especially love using the self-managing grid and the preparing my BE Statements. The Art of Letting Go of Stuff helps you to peel back the layers and get to what really matters in life. This audio program is the perfect gift for someone who wants or needs to let go of STUFF! It is also a must have for your own library!

This program changes people in quick and positive way!
"The Art of Letting Go of Stuff" does just that. It gives simple, easy, user friendly solutions to life's daily stressors in such a way that the individual is empowered to take control of their thoughts, actions, and reactions. It promotes self-awareness and effective means of going beyond that awareness to the point of taking action towards making needed change (solutions). It has lifelong implications as far as reducing stress, mental worry, and the feeling of being "out of control", and establishes itself as an ego booster, self-esteem elevator, and overall healthy way of living. It covers a lot of ground in a short timeframe making it convenient and relevant to every aspect of daily living.

My contact with others that have attended seminars or heard tapes has been positive and positively life altering. Darren is gifted in fulfilling his calling to help others - to the extent that his programs are an artform!!!!

Don't pass up this opportunity to take charge of your life and Happiness!!!!!!

This work of Informational Art is Great!
This is a great work of informational art. I have used this information on 40 ladies incarcerated at the Tennessee State Prison for Women. The ladies were preparing to take the G.E.D. exam. Only a few passed the preparatory test. After working with this lesson they not only passed the preparatory exam but they all passed the actual G.E.D. examination.

At the Crossroads

A MUST READ FOR ANYONE OVER 30!!
I am a caretaker with two aging parents. I never thought about getting old nor did I worry that my parents would ever age, themslves. Well, that day has come, and thanks to AT THE CROSSROADS, I am handling both issues well: aging parents and getting old!!.

Ms. Birdsong doesn't waste anytime in getting to the point. Whether it's Alzheimer's or selecting a nursing home, she gives straightforward and very accurate information. Whenever I have a question, I first consult the book for answers. I have not been disappointed, yet.

The Chapter on "Quality of Life" is especially intresting because it allows one to understand that the human spirit must still be fed, no matter what age.

I wholeheartedly recommend the book, particularly for anyone over 30.

REAL CLEAR AND AND EASY READING GUIDANCE AND DIRECTION
I HAVE NEVER READ A BOOK SO INFORMATIVE THAT COVERS ALL THE NEEDS I HAD TO GO THROUGH IN THE AGEING PROCESS OF MY LOVED ONE AT FIRST I THOUGHT I WOULD ONLY NEED TO BE CONCERN WITH ONE SPECIFC TOPIC THAT I KNEW THE BOOK HAD BY RECOMMENDATION FROM A FRIEND. COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN ALL OF THE ISSUES FROM COGNITIVE LOSS, MOOD STATE , BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS AND SO MUCH MORE HELPED ME TO SEE AND SEPERATE MY OWN GUILT ISSUES AS OPPOSED TO WHAT WAS REALLY SOME OF THE EARLY AS WELL AS PROGRESSED SIGNS IN THE AGEING PROCESS..I WAS ABLE TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MY HELP, PROFESSIONAL HELP PUT BOTH OF THESE DIFFERENCES IN PRESPECTIVE AND NOW MAKEING BETTER DECISIONS BASED ON NEEDS AND NOT EMOTIONALISM OUT OF CONTROL. THANKS FOR THE BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES DO`S AND DON`T. TWO THUMBS UP WITH FIVE STARS GREAT AND LONG OVERDUE BOOK.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT MOM.
THIS BOOK IS GREAT FOR THOSE WHO MAY FEEL GUILTY OR UNDECIDED. THE LEADS AND IDEAS ARE GREAT. THE INFORMATION YOU MAY HAVE NEEDED IS AT HAND. IF ANYONE IS EVER AT A STAND STILL CONCERNING OUR AGED RELATIVES TRY READING THIS BOOK AND YOU'LL HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS.

Book for Everyone
After my wife read this book I thought I would try it. Thinking it was a book for women, I was surprised to find that it was enjoyable and pointed out life lessons that we all could use. Whether you have strong religious convictions or not this book makes you think about your self and your family. I hope everyone gets a chance to read this book.

Most Enjoyable!
A fast read book. Wanted to read it again shortly after finishing. The author has beared her life and how an accident got her back on track. Short chapters which are filled with many emotions substantiated by the Bible's scriptures. Most entertaining. Open pages for you to reflect scattered throughout the book. A must read!

What Is Man? (Oxford Mark Twain)
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (November, 1996)
Authors: Mark Twain, Charles Johnson, and Shelley Fisher Fishkin
Average review score:

Also check out the "misterious stranger" by the same author
This book is not for everyone. If you believe what is happiness,
and you're happy w/ your life w/ no dought, skip this book.
If you doubt everything including your feelings (especially
happiness and satisfaction), then this book provides some idea
to fill up the hole (at least partially).

There is a book by the same author called "the Misterious Stranger" which is much easier to read. It's enjoyable. So I
recommend you guys to try out the misterious stranger first.
Then, if you like the story, and you'd like to know more
about the philosophy behind it, read this one

The book that changed my idea of Mankind
After having read the first few pages of What Is Man? I knew that I would not be able to let it go just like that. In the form of a dialogue Mark Twain raises a bunch of questions about Mankind and the way the mind works. And without revealing too much I can safely say that these are not regular everyday questions!

Whether or not one finds the questions and ideas raised in the book outrageous or greatly revolutionary, one will still be able to get many hours of reading satisfaction out of it. With his usual wit, Twain has created a beautiful dialogue that in many ways can be compared to that in Plato's The Republic. And I would be amazed if this book doesn't put your brain to work. In my case I spend hours, days and even weeks discussing the book with friends and family. I simply wanted to get other people's conceptions and opinions of the ideas raised.

What Is Man? is not just a great piece of art. It is a somewhat behaviouristic philosophy and a way of looking at Mankind. In my opinion a must in every personal library. In my own case I'll need it as an e-book on my laptop for when I'm on the road and as hard back on the book shelve when I'm sitting in my easy chair relaxing after a long day.

Amazing Psychology
Do you wonder where your thoughts originate? Do you wonder what motivates your, or why you act or react to different situations, or just everyday life? Mark Twain, in the characters of the old man and the young man, present arguments that can change you way of looking at living. It is a must read book, that will cause you to pause...everytime a thought comes to mind and everytime you react to any situation. You will wonder who it really belongs to......take a new look into your own mind. See people from a new perspective..it is amazing.
